Health risks

Unhealthy eating and not enough physical activity can easily lead to an increased risk of developing a chronic disease such as some cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

Your lifestyle can have a major impact on your health and wellbeing. Unhealthy eating and not enough physical activity can easily lead to an increased risk of developing a chronic disease such as some cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

In 2005, approximately 7.4 million Australian adults (54 per cent) were overweight or obese 2 million more than in 19951.

A waist measurement of greater than 94cm for men or 80cm for women is an indicator of the internal fat deposits, which coat the heart, kidneys, liver and pancreas, and increase the risk of chronic disease.
