Health risks

Tape measureYour lifestyle can have a major impact on your health and wellbeing. Unhealthy eating and not enough physical activity can easily lead to an increased risk of developing a chronic disease such as some cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

In 2007-08, approximately 61% of Australian adults were overweight or obese 1.

A waist measurement of greater than 94cm for men or 80cm for women is an indicator of the level of internal fat deposits which coat the heart, kidneys, liver and pancreas, and increase the risk of chronic disease.

There are simple measures you can take to decrease your risk of chronic disease and other health problems associated with these fatty deposits. Go to Tips for getting active and What should I be eating? for some practical tips you can follow.
