Michelle B - Medowie NSW    Tip of the Week - Week Ending 05 Dec 2009

Be accountable to yourself. Write down everything that goes into your mouth, drinks included, for a week and you will be astounded at the real amount you are consuming. You can't ignore what is on paper. You can tend to lose track of 'mindless eating'. This also shows what triggers eating - boredom, stress etc. Just be honest with yourself. If you continue to track throughout losing weight it really shows your changes and improvements. I have lost 55kg myself and this was key. Try it and be surprised.

Mitch - Sydney NSW

I found that having the kids around there is a lot of biscuits and lollies around that take my fancy when I feel like something. I've taken to opportunity to talk to my kids about healthy eating, nutrition and exercise and have replace all these items with more fresh fruit and healthy snacks. To the delight of all in the family. Fresh, tasty, and ultimately, good for you.

Heidi - Annerle QLD

Use low fat cottage cheese instead of bechamel or white sauce in a vegetable lasagne.

Christine - Ashmore QLD

MAKE USE OF FOOD LABELS: Food labels contain helpful information and enable easy comparison of products. I compare the fat and sugar amounts (found under "Average Quantity per 100g") between different products. I select the product with the lowest amounts and I try to stay clear of products containing more than 10g of fat or sugar.

Julia - Blackalls Park NSW

Add tinned brown lentils to lean mince to increase your vegetable consumption and save money. The lentils look similar to mince so kids won't mind. Also they make the meat taste more tender.

Add sauteed grated zucchini, carrot, eggplant, capsicum etc into mince dishes like spag bol to increase the veggies. I haven't been caught sneaking in those veggies yet. And I think it makes the mince dishes less heavy and more flavoursome.

Pat - Perth WA

If sitting at a desk all day, snack on grated or sliced baby carrots. Satisfys that sweet craving and is healthy.

Graham B - Elwood VIC

Drink water, heaps of it. Sometimes your craving for food may be for liquids. You shouldn't only drink when you are thirsty.

Margi - Howard Springs NT

Drink a large glass of water and eat a salad with a tasty balsamic dressing as an appetiser, before your main meal. This fills you up, you're more likely to eat your 2 servings of fruit and 5 of vegies (tomatoes, capsicums and olives are fruits; lettuce, onions, carrot, cucumber, beetroot etc are vegies), you'll feel healthier and you'll be better able to achieve your weight loss goals.

Darren - Putney NSW

Drink in moderation over Christmas. Too many beers over the holiday season can lead to a blowout in weight over Summer. Try spacing your drinks with a water in between.

Leo - Bankstown NSW

I tend to drink heaps of water when I'm hungry that way I don't tend to snack on so much food, a banana also fills me up quickly too when I'm hungry so I don't pig out on so much food.

Aprillia Quattro - redlynch QLD

Your children only know what you teach them, get them involved by allowing them to choose healthy foods, let them hand pick items, this encourages them to eat heathier as they take a lot of pride in the choices they made all by themselves, also choose seasonal fruit as a dessert rather than sweets, this is a lot better for their little tummies

Bar Man - Melbourne VIC    Tip of the Week - Week Ending 26 Dec 2009

Skip the alcohol calories by making a big bowl or jugs of fruit punch. Start with lots of sparkling mineral water, add some lemon and lime juice, maybe bitters to taste, float some frozen melon balls, frozen orange slices and mint leaves in there and you'll have a drink that anyone can enoy, is good for you and you'll want to come back for more. If you really want to go to town serve it in cocktail glasses with umbrellas and it looks great. Just remember to skip the sweet soft drinks. For colour and flavour try tomato juice or carrot juice.

sugar baby - kingston QLD

Now it's holidays and for Christmas why not try something different that's yummy and healthy at the same time for example my fav are apple pie, rhubarb and pear crumble and last of all lamb vegi kababs.

Lily - Perth WA

If you are sitting in your office all day like me, try to snack on sliced cucumbers and low-fat natural yoghurt...You can sprinkle mint on your yoghurt as well...I also snack on defrosting green beans (keeps my hands busy and healthy)...
